Roberto was presented with this trophy from Shell Oil Co. during an on-field ceremony at Three Rivers on July 24, 1970.
It;s inscribed: ”To Roberto Clemente for your brilliant sports work and source of encouragement and inspiration for our youth: The Shell Company Puerto Rico Limited, July 24, 1970″.
The Ciudad Deportiva Roberto Clemente, located in the municipality of Carolina, is a sports center established by Vera Zabala, widow of Roberto Clemente.
The “Sports City” complex was the genesis of a long run of successful baseball seasons featuring teams from all of the island.
This idea of reaching young people through baseball has gone global with clinics throughout Latin America and in the United States.
Governor Luis A. Ferre presented this medal to Roberto in a special ceremony held in the Salon of the Throne of the Fortress.
Crafted by the Swiss jeweler Huguenin, and featuring the crest of Puerto Rico.
